Parkway Pizza, located in the Hiawatha neighborhood of South Minneapolis, specializes in what is known as ”Minneapolis-style pizza”. What’s that? According to the description on their website, it’s characterized by 1) the use of fresh, local ingredients, 2) a thick, zesty sauce with a bite, 3) a thin crust, 4) lots of toppings, 5) cheese on top, and 6) square-cut pieces.
The star of the show, in our opinion, was the sausage. Parkway makes their own. It was flavorful but not overly spiced. It had a hint of sweetness that really made it stand out.

Parkway Pizza is a casual place with a comfortable neighborhood feel to it. The prices are very affordable. Check out their website for coupons.

Inside Parkway Pizza
Our only complaint – if you can call it that – was that the toppings weren’t piled on like promised on the website. Everything else – from the local mozzarella to the zesty sauce – was stand-out. We will definitely be back. We hear the Artichoke Deluxe pizza is amazing.

With a prime location on the University of Minnesota campus, Leaning Tower of Pizza is a popular gathering spot for students, sports fans (LTOP is one block from TCF stadium), and those looking for a late-night bite (they’re open 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. seven days a week.)
The Pizza
The pizza is average – a thin crust topped with a slightly zesty red sauce and a layer of cheese lacking in flavor. While we can’t rave about the pizza, we enjoyed our experience overall. The restaurant is huge, with a dining area separated from a larger bar area with pool tables, dart boards, and other novelties. Leaning Tower is popular before and after games at TCF, not only for the pizza, but also for the booze (no alcohol is served at TCF Stadium). Think of it more as a college bar serving pizza than the other way around, and you’ll likely leave satisfied.
